"Anyone with information that could assist our investigation is urged to contact police at Helen Street, Govan immediately quoting incident number 3874 of 8 July."

A man is fighting for his life after the 'large-scale disturbance'

Detectives say they don't believe it is linked to a recent spate of gangland attacks across the north of the city in recent months.

They also said there is nothing to suggest that the incident is racially motivated.

DCI Fergus reassured the public earlier today, saying: "I understand that local people in the area are very concerned about this level of violence taking place in broad day light on their streets and I'd like to reassure them that we are doing everything that we can to track down everyone involved in this incident - many people would have seen what happened and we ask that they come forward and support us in our investigation.

"We will have extra patrols in the area for the foreseeable future and we would encourage the public to come forward and speak to these officers with any information they have or indeed any concerns they have."

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Helen Street Police Station. Alternatively calls can be made via Crime stoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
