William and Harry open up about their mother in heartwarming documentary as Wills points to a picture of pregnant Diana and tells his brother ‘you’re in the tummy’
Touching scenes forming part of upcoming ITV documentary, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, marking the 20th anniversary of her death
PRINCES William and Harry have spoken touchingly about their Mother, Diana, while sharing cherished photos of the late Princess.
The brothers are seen at a table in Kensington Palace as they go through a series of pictures showing them as young boys with Diana.
Prince William smiles as he holds the first picture showing Diana in a pink sweatshirt and holding him as a toddler, and with a small pregnancy bump visible.
The Duke of Cambridge turns to his younger brother and says: "Believe it or not, you and I are both in this photograph - you’re in the tummy!”
Prince Harry, 32, says: “This is the first time that the two of us have ever spoken about her as a mother.”
Another snap shows Prince William, 35, in a riding helmet, sitting proudly on a pony - aged around four - with his beaming mother by his side and dungaree-clad Prince Harry in front of her.
A further touching photo shows giggling Wills – in a shirt and tie – on Diana’s back, his hands clasped around her shoulders, while Harry again stands in front of his Mum.
Diana – who died in August 1997 in a Paris car smash – is also seen laughing in a horse-drawn carriage with the young princes in front of her in a short video clip.
The images show for the first time Princes William and Harry looking at intimate family pictures of them with their beloved mother, who was nicknamed Princess of Hearts.
They are seen in a promo, which airs on ITV tonight, for an upcoming documentary celebrating Diana’s life.
Talking about their Mum together on-screen for the first time, Prince William says: “She was very informal and really enjoyed the laughter and the fun.”
Harry agrees, saying: “She was one of the naughtiest parents.”
And - talking about down to earth Diana’s common touch - William adds: “But she understood that there was a real life outside of Palace walls.”
Harry then says: “She was our Mum. She still is our Mum. And of course, as a son I would say this, she was the best mum in the world. She smothered us with love, that’s for sure.”
As they speak the footage pans onto a clip of Diana in a green and white outfit and hat, standing on a palace balcony and holding Harry – in matching green dungarees and sticking his tongue out.
A final shot sees the two princes – aged around four and two – dressed smartly and sitting at a piano topped with framed royal photos as Diana looks on.
The touching scenes will form part of upcoming ITV documentary, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy.
It was made to mark the 20th anniversary of her tragic death.
