Parents of desperately-ill tot beg doctors to keep his life support on after he ‘opens eyes, yawns and stretches’ after coming out of coma
Alfie Evans has been fighting a mystery illness since New Year
PARENTS of a sick baby are pleading with doctors who say his ventilator should be switched off so he can "die peacefully".
Thomas and Kate Evans were told their son wouldn't survive the night when he fell ill over New Year with bronchitis, the common cold and a chest infection.
To their surprise their little boy miraculously opened his eyes, yawned and stretched after coming out of a coma.
But after pulling through, little Alfie has been fighting for his life against a mystery illness ever since.
His parents say he can survive a maximum of 13 days without his ventilator which has been switched off three times to test his progress.
Now doctors say there is nothing more they can do - and that the child should be allowed to die.
In a Facebook post, Alfie's father, Thomas Evans, said: "Doctors are saying they have exhausted all (their) diagnostic testing and they consulted with Great Ormond Street Hospital for a second 'opinion' but neither parties can find out what is wrong with Alfie , and therefore Alder Hay Hospital is asking us to terminate all life-support measures and 'allow him to die peacefully'."
"We should and need to fight for Alfie to LIVE 'peacefully' the life he has and deserves. Not to let him die 'peacefully!'

The family are now trying to raise £5,000 so that Alfie can be diagnosed - and potentially be given treatment abroad.
Thomas added: "We believe that our son is a precious gift that we are blessed with, have been given him for a reason, and to get him through what ever life throws at him and us!";
