SAVAGE reviews posted by people dubbing their own home towns 'dumps', 's***holes' and 'hell on earth' have been used to name England's 10 worst places to live.
The annual list by has seen thousands of ashamed residents vote for and review towns and cities across the country on Facebook.
Towns and cities in the undesirable league table were subject to some below-the-belt comments from locals, who seem not to be able to get out fast enough.
10. Blackpool

The seaside resort was once a jewel in the crown of the nation's tourism industry but has fallen from its former glories according to some residents. One wrote: "Go back a few streets from the prom and you will see the deprivation, the ghettos and the scummy pubs that make up the REAL Blackpool."Credit: SWNS:South West News Service
9. Oldham

Oldham is less than 10 miles from Manchester but some residents describe it as a far cry from its trendy, cosmopolitan neighbour. One wrote: "I think Oldham was best summed up by a friend of mine who remarked the people look as though the government has been performing nuclear testing in the area."Credit: Getty Images
8. Sunderland

The Sunderland Echo demanded an apology from the New York Times last year when it described shops in one part of the city as 'run-down as if out of a time warp'. But it seems some locals agree, one writing: "It’s a pretty sad place, to be honest. Find somewhere with easy access to Newcastle city centre and you’ll be happy."Credit: Getty Images
7. Gravesend

Gravesend was one of two towns in Kent to make the list. Despite its Thames-side location one wantaway resident said: "If you must come to Gravesend, please stop by the estate agents and buy my house, because it’s far to close to chavs for comfort."Credit: Alamy
6. Bradford

At the turn of the 20th century Bradford was one of the wealthiest cities in the UK. But voters say its best days may be behind it. One said: "Bradford is literally hell on earth. The city centre resembles a squalid cess pit, full of monstrous partially demolished 60s concrete office blocks."Credit: SWNS:South West News Service
5. Rochdale

Rochdale is one of several towns along the M62 corridor to be named in the top 10. One resident's review said: "Rochdale, once described by Monty Python as a quaint Northern village, I am sure you already recognise this as a misnomer of the greatest degree."Credit: Alamy
4. Scunthorpe

The steel town was the setting of Channel 4 documentary Skint, but despite protests from town chiefs, some residents feel its gritty reputation is deserved. One wrote: "If Maccy Ds is the chav’s staple diet, what does that tell you about a town that boasts not one, not two but THREE of these gourmet eateries?"Credit: Getty Images
3. Luton

Luton house prices grew more than anywhere in the UK last year, but many locals don't feel like they're living in a boom town. One wrote: "One of the most shocking moments in Luton was on Christmas day. My friend pointed out the local McDonalds, saying 'it gets busier every year'."Credit: Barcroft Media
2. Hull
10
Last year's winner, Hull, was beaten into second place in the year it was named UK City of Culture. One unkind reviewer wrote: "I lived in Hull until I was ten but my parents moved when local gangs started to have pitched battles using such weapons as garden sheers."Credit: Alamy
1. Dover
10
Dover is best known for its White Cliffs and connections to the continent but locals came out in force to vote it the worst place to live in the UK. Among the scathing reviews, the coastal town was described as 'a hotbed of scally-ism'. Another creatively writes: "Let us for a moment imagine that the British Isles are the silhouette of an old man. Scotland is his cap, Cornwall his toes, Anglia his curved spine, making Dover his herpes infested s***hole."
