CHAOS IN CROATIA

Boozy Brits are turning Croatian resorts into holiday hellholes by ‘throwing up, peeing and fighting’ in the streets, local mayor claims

They've now drafted in extra police to curb the amount of British tourists causing havoc

THE FURIOUS Croatian authorities have blasted drunken Brits for "throwing up, peeing and fighting" throughout the country's booming holiday resorts.

They've now drafted in extra police to curb the amount of tourists they say are causing havoc in the island resorts of Hvar and Novalja in the Adriatic Sea.

The Mayor of Hvar, Rikardo Novak, slammed British tourists for displaying nudity and drunken behaviour.

He said: "They throw up across the city streets, they pee on every corner, they walk without t-shirts, they sleep on the streets, in public spaces, they make noise and they are out of control.

"They may walk naked without t-shirts on other parts of the coast, but not in Hvar. That will no longer be tolerated.

"They may be naked on the beach, but when they are in the city, they should be dressed."

Last week a drunken 24-year-old Brit was arrested for attacking a 22-year-old Austrian citizen with a bottle and injured his leg.

He spent the night in the police station and is reportedly facing charges of disturbance of order and peace.

And earlier in June, a drunken British tourist was pictured dressed as a terrorist, wearing a scarf on his head and a fake bomb on his waist. He was seen walking during the day on the coast of the Croatian Island Hvar.

A few days later, Mayor Novak announced he would be introducing fines for lewd behaviour.

The mayor did not reveal the maximum fine amount, but said that Hvar will not be known as a party destination.

He added: "The young tourists are welcome, but they will have to know how to behave when they arrive here."

There is no current statistic of how many Brits visited the Croatian Islands so far this summer but in the summer of last year (2016), 554,185 people visited.

The Mayor of the Croatian town Novalja, located in the island Pag in the Croatian part of Adriatic Sea, also complained about British tourists.

Novalja is a town in the north of the island of Pag in the Croatian part of Adriatic Sea.

In recent times Novalja became famous because of the Zrce Beach, which is one of the biggest summer party zones in Europe.

Mayor Ante Dabo, 52, apologised to Croatian citizens for the "barbaric" British tourists and their nudity, drunkenness and "discernment".

The mayor said: "I have mixed feelings of sadness, bitterness and responsibility as a mayor of this town who is deceived and humiliated by barbarism and the unskilled portion of the young English guests.

"The fact that the English tourists have extremely high-paying powers for our conditions, doesn’t give them right to behave this way which leaves the locals helpless in front of the primitive behaviour, nudity, and drunkenness.

"Despite the fact that we have received significant reinforcements from the Police Directorate, criminal and emergency police, despite the employment of 20 more municipal officers and a number of security guards, the situation of order and security is seriously jeopardised today.

"As a mayor I ask myself 'can these young people go unpunished in such a wild life in their country or would they be punished because of such behaviour?'

"Therefore, as the Mayor, I apologise to all of my fellow citizens who are insulted by this behaviour and who are indignant by all that we have seen these past days on our streets."
