A GAMBLER is suing a casino after she won £34million on a slot machine - then was told the machine was faulty and she could have a free STEAK DINNER instead.

Katrina Bookman, from New York, even took a selfie with the machine as it displayed her massive $42,949,672.76 (£34m) total.

Despite the machine's "bells, noises and lights" telling her she'd won, she says officials escorted her out and told her she could only have her £1.70 winnings ($2.25) and a steak.

Her lawyers say her disappointment when she learned it had displayed an error message making all wins void has left her anxious and depressed, The reports.

The mother-of-four was raised in foster care and was homeless before managing to put all four children through high school as a single mum.

She believed it was her lucky break, reported.

She said: "I kept thinking about my family. The struggle I've been through, it's hard to cope."

The bizarre incident occurred at the Resorts World Casino in New York in August last year.

She said that after the jackpot was struck, she was escorted from the casino and told to come back the next day for the decision.

Her lawyer Alan Ripka said that at the very least the casino should pay out the maximum allowed on the machine - £5,000 ($6,500).

He said: "They win and the house doesn't want to pay out. To me that's unfair. The machine takes your money when you lose. It ought to pay it when you win."
