TAKING THE PIZZ-A

Domino’s customer stunned after staff member drew a conspiracy theory about 9/11 on their delivery box

Michael Thorman, 19, from Newburn, Tyne and Wear, couldn't believe his eyes

A DOMINO'S staff member drew a terror attack on a shocked customer's pizza box as a "joke".

Michael Thorman, 19, from Newburn, Tyne and Wear, asked for something funny to be written on his takeaway through the online system - a growing trend where customers then share the image on social media.

However, when Michael and his girlfriend Leigh Wadforth, 21, went to tuck into their family meal deal they saw a crude drawing of the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York on the inside of the box.

The couple were watching the One Love Manchester concert on the TV when they ordered the takeaway treat from the Blaydon branch of the pizza chain.

The concert raised funds for the families of the 22 people killed in the Manchester Bombing on May 22 and was broadcast just one day after eight people were killed, 48 others injured, in a terror attack on London Bridge.

Michael said: “It’s not a joke, there’s nothing funny about 9/11.

“The other box had a picture of two pizzas fighting, then I saw (the 9/11 sketch) and thought 'That’s a bit much given the timing and everything that has just happened'."

The plumbing apprentice complained on the firm’s Facebook page about the sick joke.

He wrote: “On one of our pizzas there was a funny image, however on the other there was what I would describe as quite an offensive image regarding a large terrorist attack.”

The store manager spoke to Michael about the issue and apologised and offered the couple a refund and voucher for another meal deal.

Louise Butler, a spokesperson for Domino’s said the inappropriate drawing was done by a young member of the team.

She said: “One of our store colleagues responded to the customer’s request for a drawing with an inappropriate 'conspiracy theory sketch'.

“Having investigated, we’re reassured the team member, a young local lad, intended no malice and the customer has accepted our apology.”
