Gary Lineker leads Twitter reaction to shock General Election after Theresa May shoots herself in the foot with snap vote
GARY Lineker led Twitter reaction to the prediction of a hung parliament last night as he said Theresa May "won own goal of the season" - before it was proved right this morning.
The former footballer responded to news the Conservatives could lose their majority the Prime Minister called for the snap election in April.
He tweeted six minutes after the exit poll claimed the Tories would be 12 seats short of a majority: "I think Theresa May has won own goal of the season."
Later adding: "Even a small majority would equate to an own goal for May."
Greg Jenner responded to him: "Does Corbyn win save of the season?"
While another Twitter user wrote: "Worst thing she's done since running through that wheat."
Labour's Harriet Harman posted: "Holding my breath! Hardly daring to hope! Theresa May/feet of clay! Downing St removal vans for her!"
Piers Morgan tweeted simply "Theresa's toast" as other Twitter users posted memes reacting to the news.
