Michael Fallon says ‘exit polls have been wrong in the past’ after shock prediction of hung parliament

TORY heavyweight Michael Fallon has told Britons not to worry as the election exit poll gave a possibility of a coalition of chaos.

The Defence Secretary told the BBC’s David Dimbleby: “Exit polls have been wrong in the past.

“In 2015 they underestimated our vote. A couple of elections before they overestimated our vote.

“So I do think we need to see some actual results before we can interpret this one way or the other.”

The exit poll put the Conservatives on 314 seats — 12 short of a majority and the exact same as Labour, the Lib Dems and the SNP combined.

It suggests a hung parliament could be on the cards and anti-Tory parties could team up under socialist Corbyn to form a government.

“It’s very early  to start, on the basis of a projection, before we’ve had an actual single result”, Mr Fallon added.

“Let’s wait and see the seats coming through”.

And Peter Kellner, the former head of polling giant YouGov, said initial results had showed massive swings to the Tories in Labour’s northeast stronghold.

In Sunderland the swing to Labour was only two per cent rather than and expected seven per cent.
