London Bridge attack heroes – cab passenger who treated bleeding victims to the pub punter who hurled pint glasses at terrorists
AS London was hit by a devastating terror attack last night everyday heroes put themselves in the line of danger as they responded to fear with bravery.
From the cab driver who drove towards the terrorists on London Bridge in a bid to stop them, to the man who threw pint glasses at the knife-weilding men who stormed a pub – Londoners rushed to help.
A van driven by three men ploughed into at pedestrians on London Bridge before Borough Market went into lockdown.
Less than two weeks on from the Manchester Arena attack at least seven people have died and 48 hurt following the first attack at 10:08pm on the bridge, before staff at a packed pub locked the doors as the gang tried to smash their way in.
Assistant Commissioner of Met Police Mark Rowley confirmed that all three of the depraved attackers were shot and killed within eight minutes of the first call to emergency services.

A brave punter told how he threw pint glasses, beer bottles and bar stools at terrorists as they went on a stabbing spree near London Bridge.
Speaking to the BBC, the man named only as Gerard said: “I know it was a silly thing to do, but I was just trying to save people’s lives.”
A young woman acted quickly to barricade the doors of Black and Blue restaurant to stop terrorists coming in – allowing people to escape safely.
Taxi driver Aksha Patel explained how a woman, who was part of a couple in his vehicle, acted as a barrier for “a few seconds” which meant that people were able to escape the rear entrance of the Black and Blue restaurant.
Bouncers at The Wheatsheaf, in Borough Market, were praised for blocking the doors and shutting punters inside to keep them safe as the men rampaged.
A cab driver turned his car around and tried to drive into the terrorists in a bid to thwart them.
Londoners offered help to the victims of the atrocity in the hours that followed – including food, clothing and blood donations.
Taxi drivers also offered people lifts to safety and hotels as those caught in the vicinity of London Bridge flee the area.
Brave restaurant staff saved the lives of dozens of diners from three machete-wielding terrorists who “hesitated” for a vital moment as they stormed inside.
The killers ran down a flight of stairs at the side of London Bridge towards Cafe Brood near Borough Market after ploughing a white van into several pedestrians on London Bridge.
But quick-thinking staff at the restaurant ushered diners inside, shielding them from the chaos before the attackers ran down the road.
Entrepreneur and youth activist Phaldip Singh tweeted a map last night highlighting the location of Sikh temples which were open and providing food and shelter to those affected.
Staff at a Sainsburys in London Bridge were pictured giving out food and drinks to the police at the cordon this morning.
Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner Cressida Dick said of those who rushed to help: “Last night we saw another appalling and tragic incident in London – something we hoped we would not see again.
“Many, many people risked their own safety to help others and to treat those seriously injured and indeed to confront the suspects involved.
“It is clear to be that the courage of those people was extraordinary and I pay tribute to all of them who came to the aid of those in need during this dreadful attack and I am sure helped to save lives.”
