London Bridge attack terrorists wore FAKE suicide vests to put off cops during deadly knife rampage

THE London Bridge terrorists wore fake suicide vests and one wore an ARSENAL football shirt as they mowed down and stabbed pedestrians.

Canisters were found strapped to their chests — thought to be an attempt to ward off cops from shooting them.

A harrowing image of a shot terrorist was seen to be wearing a blue 2011/12 Arsenal away shirt under the vest.

Scotland Yard Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said suspicions that explosives were involved had been ruled out.

He also revealed that the three male suspects had been "confronted and shot by the police within eight minutes of the first call."

He added: "The suspects were wearing what looked like explosive vests but these were later established to be hoaxes."

He confirmed that six victims had died in the attack, and at least 20 casualties have been taken to hospitals across London.

He asked for the public to avoid the London Bridge and Borough Market areas of the capital.

Counter Terrorism Command is leading the investigation.

Three terrorists drove a van and ploughed into pedestrians in London Bridge just after 10pm last night.

The attackers then jumped out and started stabbing nearby revellers with hunting knives.

Six people were killed and over 30 were injured.

Staff at a packed pub locked the doors as the gang tried to smash their way in. One man was stabbed five times.

British Transport Police confirmed one of its on-duty officers was seriously injured in the attack.

The male officer was one of the first on the scene “after he responded to calls for help from the public”, BTP said.

Four explosions – believed to be controlled blasts by police – were heard outside The Sun offices in London Bridge between 1:23am and 1:49am.

Witness Erick Siguenza told BBC News that one of the gang screamed “This is for Allah” as he went on his stabbing rampage.

Met police have confirmed that the attacks in London Bridge and Borough Market are "terror incidents."


What we know so far:

  • A van ploughed through pedestrians on London Bridge just after 10pm on Saturday
  • Three men wearing fake bomb vests jumped out on the south end of the bridge at Borough Market and began knifing bystanders and pub-goers
  • Armed police arrived on the scene and within eight minutes the three terrorists were shot dead
  • At least six victims were killed and at least 30 people were injured. The injured were being treated across five London hospitals
  • Theresa May will chair a Cobra emergency response meeting later after the attack was confirmed to be a terror incident
  • Four controlled explosions were heard near The Sun’s offices in London Bridge between 1:20am and 1:50am
  • Police appealed for witnesses
