A BRAVE punter told how despite his heroic efforts to drive away the terrorists who targeted London Bridge on Saturday night he feels guilty he couldn't do more.

Gerard Vowls threw pint glasses, beer bottles and bar stools at crazed terror knifemen as they went on a stabbing spree in bars and restaurants.

He saw a woman being stabbed and : "She was going 'help me, help me' and screaming.

"It was horrible. I felt helpless. I'm sad for that poor girl, what they did to her, and I wish I could have done more to help her."

He described the terror attack as the "most evil" thing he had ever seen.

Gerard left The Ship pub in Borough and was walking home when he saw a victim covered in blood pleading for help.

He then saw the men stabbing a woman who was lying on the floor.

Adding: "I'm hoping that she's alive because I want to go and see her in hospital so I can just say I tried my best to help you, I'm just glad you're alive."

It came after terrorists wearing stab-proof vests drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge before attacking revellers with hunting knives.

Gerard said he picked up anything he could get his hands on, including chairs and glasses, to throw at the men.

He followed them as they rampaged throughout the iconic area of London trying to warn people they had knives.

He said he shouted 'oi cowards' at them as they carried out the devastating attack.

Gerard said: "Next thing I saw these three guys run up with knives - they started stabbing this girl.

"I was defenceless, I couldn't do nothing mate.

"They started running up the road I was screaming 'Run, everyone run, they're terrorists, they're stabbing everyone!' So I followed them.

"They ran up to the Tavern, they stabbed the bouncer. They started running in all the pubs, all the bars.

"They were stabbing everyone. I was throwing bottles at them, pint glasses, stools."

He added: "I tried to help as many people as I could but at the end of the day I was defenceless, mate.

"If I'd have fell over they probably would have killed me."

He said he witnessed attackers stabbing a girl between ten and fifteen times.
