A HOMELESS man has used the money given to him by passers-by to buy flowers for the Manchester bombing memorial rather than for food.

Hero Tommy has spent the £40 donated to him to take tributes to the site in memory of the 22 victims.

Tommy – who asked the not to print his surname as he is embarrassed about being homeless – said he was determined to help.

On the day of the bombing he used the £5 given to him to buy a bunch of flowers and since then has taken six more to the memorial at St Ann’s Square .

Tommy told the MEN: “For something like this to happen, for someone to be able to go that far and take innocent people, children - I just don’t get it.”

He added: “A lot of people in this area have done a lot for me so it’s a tribute to the people that have given me the money as well.

“I’ve done what I can for the community in my own way.”

Following the attack homeless people were hailed heroes after they rushed to help those injured.

Chris Parker, 33, cradled a dying woman and wrapped a bloodied child in merchandise T-shirts while Stephen Jones described in harrowing detail how he had to pull nails from a little girl’s face.

Yesterday we reported how a young mum said she’d received death threats after laying into the Manchester attack homeless hero for getting a house before her.

Emily Walton, 22, saw red after learning that rough sleeper Stephen Jones was getting a roof put over his head as a thank you.
