JEZ FOR SUCCESS

Jeremy Corbyn swaps his crumpled old beige suit for new dark outfit to help him look more Prime Ministerial

Labour leader's spin doctors are insisting he wears always a dark blue suit in public as part of an election makeover

JEREMY Corbyn’s spin doctors are insisting he wears a dark blue suit in public as part of an election makeover.

Aides are desperate to make their leader look more Prime Ministerial in a bid to close the massive personal poll lead that Theresa May has over him.

That has meant junking his trademark beige jackets and trousers, as well as his favourite silver shell suit.

They have been replaced by the dark coloured suit, which is always worn with a white or light blue shirt – in an echo of US presidents’ traditional clobber.

The Sun can reveal that the last time Mr Corbyn was seen in public not wearing the new uniform was on May 1.

Several new blue suits have been bought for the hard left Labour boss for the seven week election campaign, which aides last night insisted are “not particularly expensive”.

Only his favourite Socialist red tie has been allowed to stay.

Mr Corbyn’s beard is also being kept closely trimmed in another bid to smarten him up.

A senior Labour source said: “Jeremy looks good in a blue suit, and we’re pleased with how he’s coming across.

“Presentation is important.”

The PM mocked Mr Corbyn’s makeover in a speech yesterday, having also noticed it.

She told activists in Wolverhampton: “Jeremy Corbyn’s minders can put him in a smart blue suit for an interview with Jeremy Paxman, but with his position on Brexit he will find himself alone and naked”.

The only time Mr Corbyn broke the blue suit rule was last Saturday, when he was photographed wearing more casual crème-coloured jacket and trousers while playing football with children.

Mrs May still has 20 point lead over the Labour boss when voters are asked who would make the better Prime Minister.

Former PM David Cameron also famously mocked Mr Corbyn’s scruffy dress over during a fiery PMQs session last year.

After an exchange about his mother, the ex-Tory leader thundered: “I know what my mother would say.

“I think she’d look across the despatch box and she’d say: ‘Put on a proper suit, do up your tie and sing the national anthem’.”
