MIGRANTS 'TO SOAR'

Immigration levels could soar again if Jeremy Corbyn wins the General Election, watchdog warns

IMMIGRATION could soar again under Jeremy Corbyn, a respected border controls watchdog warns.

Migration Watch said Labour’s manifesto made clear their leader had “little desire to reduce present levels of immigration”.

Jeremy Corbyn was slammed for manifesto promises that will increase immigration

Chairman Lord Green of Deddington slammed the party for failing to commit to slashing immigration even proposing measures “likely to increase” the number of people coming here.

He said despite Labour accepting the end of freedom of movement of people post Brexit, scrapping the minimum income threshold for spouses and partners would add to numbers and was open to abuse.

The campaign group, which calls for tighter immigration controls, also blasted the Tories – for pledging to cut net migration to tens of thousands – but with no deadline for it.

Although Labour has pledged freedom of movement will end, Migration Watch claims Corbyn’s policies will not reduce immigration

Lord Green said: “The Labour manifesto makes it clear that they have little desire to reduce present levels of immigration – indeed, the specific measures mentioned are likely to increase it.

“On the other hand, the Conservative manifesto is strong on intention but with little detail on how, in practice, immigration is to be reduced.

Theresa May was also slammed for being all talk and no action on pledge to bring immigration down to 10s of 1000s

Official immigration figures releases last week showed a drop in net migration to less than 250,000 for the first time in three years as tens of thousands of Eastern Europeans left Britain.

Official figures yesterday revealed immigration totalled 588,000 in 2016.

But 339,000 people left, including 117,000 EU citizens, the most for nearly a decade.
