There’s no real contest between Theresa May and liar Jeremy Corbyn after PM’s calm and careful handling of the Manchester terror attack

THE Manchester murders were a horrific reminder of how vulnerable we are to Islamist terrorists – and how vital it is that we can trust the occupant of 10 Downing Street with our security.

In almost every election campaign the eventual winner has a wobble, and it looks like this one’s been no different.

But with the election just 11 days away, it’s no surprise to see the Tories back with a whopping poll lead. Jeremy Corbyn’s record on security would make an honest man blush. He has opposed almost every measure to combat terror, has lauded terrorists as friends, has backed our enemies rather than our allies — and is now lying about it.

On Friday night, he told Andrew Neil on BBC1 that he had never met the IRA — a lie so shameless that you wonder how he has the gall to even try to get away with it.

When it comes to deciding between the Labour leader and Theresa May, there is no real contest — as the PM’s calm and careful handling of the Manchester bombing emphasised.

It’s a sensible idea to set up a Commission for Countering Extremism. But it’s important it doesn’t become yet another well-intentioned but useless talking shop.

It needs to have real teeth and to be able to drive a coach and horses through the blockages in Whitehall and elsewhere against action.

Abbott's mad bad world

IF the prospect of Corbyn as PM isn’t scary enough, the thought that Diane Abbott could be Home Secretary is spine-chilling.

Unless, that is, you’re a criminal whose DNA profile is on the police database. Because the Shadow Home Secretary wants to wipe everyone’s details from it — including the guilty.

There’s an argument that the state shouldn’t hold your details if you’ve never committed a crime. But only in the crazy universe of Abbott would the police not be able to keep the details of criminals.

Thank heavens the British people have too much sense than to let these maniacs anywhere near power.
