Ruth Davidson and Nicola Sturgeon in battle of the ice cream scoops as Tories creep up on the SNP in Scotland

The pair were snapped cooling off with cones while campaigning on the hottest day of the year

NICOLA STURGEON and Ruth Davidson have been locked into a battle of the scoops today as both were snapped chomping down on ice creams.

The two political rivals were cooling off with the creamy cones on the hottest day of the year so far.

She chomped down on the ice-cream, which quickly melted in the scorching sun

The SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon took a quick stop at an ice cream van to grab a bite after making a campaign visit to Scottish Gas HQ in Edinburgh today.

She was also presented with a decorated cake with a personalised welcome message – and spent time chatting to workers.

After the visit the First Minister took a short break to grab a whippy ice cream and cone to cool down.

Meanwhile, Scots Tory boss Ruth Davidson has been behind the counter in Glasgow.

She got stuck in during a visit to Valentini’s Ice Cream Parlour in Giffnock, south of Glasgow – and even started serving up scoops herself.

The Conservative leader – who is hoping to nick seats off the SNP north of the border in next month’s election, looked pleased with herself as she prepared ice creams this afternoon.
