The Electoral Commission has published the stats for May 10 to 16, which also saw the Liberal Democrats bring in £160,000, while Ukip received £35,000.

Under the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000, parties must set out what donations and loans they have received in excess of £7,500 in the run-up to the June 8 poll.

The biggest individual donor to the Tories was John C Roberts, who gave £150,000 – the same as firm Investors in Private Capital Ltd.

Other major donors included Lord John Sainsbury, as well as Rainy City Investments.

For Labour, who only had seven separate donors, the highest amount was by far and away the GMB union, who handed Jeremy Corbyn £290,125.

The second-highest donation was just £16,000, from the Communication Workers Union.

The Liberal Democrats were given £100,000 by Mark Petterson, the director of a large wind farm developer, while the Socialist Party of Great Britain were handed £10,000 by a single donor.

This has increased the lead the Conservatives have over Labour – having received almost double the amount of cash so far.

Their combined donations total £5,982, 108, while Labour have taken in £3,066,225 – with the Lib Dems in third on £340,000.

In 2015 the six largest political parties spent £36.7million in total, compared with £30.9million in the run-up to the 2010 election.

The Tories were the highest spenders on £15.6million, while Labour spent £12.1million.
