BOMBER'S GERMAN LINKS PROBED

Manchester bomber Salman Abedi flew to Düsseldorf in Germany and back FOUR DAYS before atrocity

MANCHESTER mass murderer Salman Abedi was in the German city of Düsseldorf - a hotbed of radical Islam - four days before blowing himself up, killing 22 people.

And intelligence authorities have discovered the ISIS disciple also visited the banking metropolis of Frankfurt in 2015 - home to a number of Jihadists under the microscope of the authorities.

German security sources said intelligence efforts have been redoubled to find out if Abedi had accomplices in the country, received any explosives training or had been radicalised by preachers.

He flew to and from the city on the Rhine directly from Manchester.

Düsseldorf is in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia where Berlin Christmas market killer Anis Amri, 24, worshipped at Jihadist mosques shortly before he ploughed a stolen lorry into a crowd, killing 11 and wounding dozens more.

Focus Magazine in Germany reports today Abedi was on no international search list monitoring the movement of suspicious Islamists, and slipped in and out of the country with ease.

German anti-terror experts from the police and the domestic intelligence service are now probing his potential contacts with radical German Islamists in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Since the bombing on Monday evening it has emerged security agencies missed numerous chances to stop Abedi.

Among at least five wasted opportunities were a relative telling MI5 this year he was “dangerous” and a neighbour reporting suspicious activity at his home five years ago.

His dad Ramadan Abedi has denied his son is linked to militants or the suicide bombing.

Focus reported that British intelligence have shared with the Germans details of his military training in Syria.

"The radical Islamist scene is closely intertwined internationally," said a senior Federal Criminal Office expert to Focus.

"We have to clarify whether Abedi met people in Syria who he now met again in NRW or Hesse," he added, referring to the state in which Frankfurt sits.

There are 850 mosques in North Rhine-Westphalia and the interior ministry has identified at least 55 of them as being places where radical Islamic ideology is extolled.

These radical mosques and 'prayer houses' - sometimes little more than a back room in a shop or a lock-up garage - operate outside the umbrella groups governing main-stream Islam.

Germany lost some 800 young men to fanatics in Syria, but around half have returned - with lethal knowledge of explosives and weaponry.

Ever since the Amri attack the country has been in a high state of alert.

Britain has seen its terror threat level rise this week to critical - the first time it has been that high in a decade.

In the UK police were in a desperate race against time to find the bomb gang behind the Manchester Arena massacre on Monday night — before more families are destroyed.

Security chiefs believe the deadly device detonated by Salman Abedi was built by other ISIS fanatics in a city centre flat.

Eight men have now been arrested over the devastating attack which saw 22 people killed and 64 injured.
