Authorities believe the bomber used a small detonator in his left hand to trigger the deadly device.

The silver trigger can be seen in the snaps smeared with blood.

The harrowing photos also show nuts and screws that exploded from the tightly-packed bomb - embedding themselves in people's heads.

Investigators believe a 12 volt battery, which has melted and become mangled in the photos, was used a possible power source.

They said the bomb was more likely to be in a backpack than vest because Abedi was shot away from the blast.

The killer had detonated the explosive in the foyer of the Manchester Arena as parents waited to pick their children up from the concert.

He massacred 22 people - including eight-year-old Saffie Roussos - and injured more than 100 in the worst terror attack in the UK since 7/7.

Dozens of people are still missing and feared dead.

The devastating list of victims killed in the bombing has continued to grow today, including a 14-year-old girl along with an off-duty cop.

A network of undercover cops are now hunting a network of terrorists after warning the bombmaker could still be alive.

They today swooped on a suspect with a “suspicious package” in Wigan in the fifth arrest over the bombing.

Three men were arrested just streets away from where Abedi lived as Theresa May raised the UK threat level to “critical” for the first time in 10 years.

Abedi, who US officials said was identified by bank card among his remains, is thought to have been a "mule" using the device built by someone else, the BBC reports.
