Manchester attack – Asda donates chocolate and sweets to Manchester Royal Infirmary for children wounded in ‘nail’ bomb explosion

ASDA has donated chocolate and sweets to Manchester Royal Infirmary for children wounded in last night’s terror attack.

Pictures show staff from the branch of the supermarket in Hulme, southern Manchester, delivering the goodies to the hospital today.

Asda employees were seen unloading Walkers crisps, Cadbury chocolate bars and Capri-Sun fruit drinks outside the building.

The treats were handed over to hospital staff, who wheeled them off into the hospital on trolleys.

A spokesman for Asda confirmed to the Sun Online that a number of local stores were helping by donating drinks and snacks for the victims as well as emergency workers.

He said: “Our Eastland’s store is providing food and water and supporting the local community, and the emergency services at the Etihad Stadium, which is being set up as a support centre.”

Children have been confirmed to be among the 22 dead and 59 injured after last night’s suicide bombing at a concert by Ariana Grande.

Others described the carnage in the aftermath of the blast, with one telling how she picked scraps of human flesh from her hair.

Some 12 kids under the age of 16 were rushed to hospital in a critical condition last night.

Political leaders from all parties today announced they would halt their General Election campaigning as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives, with the PM calling an emergency Cobra meeting this morning.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police today said: “We have been treating this as a terrorist incident and we believe that while the attack last night was conducted by one man, the priority is to establish whether he was acting alone or as part of a network.

“The attacker, I can confirm, died at the arena.

“We believe the attacker was carrying an improvised explosive device, which he detonated, causing this atrocity.”
