Crazed druggie high on Black Mamba synthetic cannabis hacked his own hooter off with kitchen knife
Bloodbath in Birmingham was 'the most gruesome scene' one copper had seen in 26 years of service
A CRAZED drug-user cut off his nose while high on super-strong synthetic cannabis.
The man, who was having a severe psychotic episode after taking former legal high Black Mamba, had blood pouring down his face when police arrived.
He had to be subdued by two officers who battled to stem the bleeding for almost 30 minutes.
Four other officers were needed to carry him down three flights of stairs to a waiting ambulance.
One later described it “as a bloodbath and the most gruesome scene he’s encountered in 26 years of police service”.
The man mutilated other parts of his body as well as hacking his nose with a kitchen knife.
He later recovered in hospital and has since been receiving specialist support.
Details of the incident, which happened in Newtown, Birmingham, last October, emerged as the six officers were given awards for saving his life.
Insp Mat Minton said: “I believe the actions of these officers saved the man’s life.
“They were met with the sight of someone who had mutilated himself and was outwardly displaying hostility and aggression towards them.
“It’s hard to imagine how challenging that scene must have been.”
Black Mamba, which is now illegal, mimics the effects of the psychoactive chemical in cannabis.
It is more potent than natural cannabis, increasing the risk of harmful side effects, including organ failure.
Supt Andy Parsons said: “These psychoactive substances can have catastrophic effects.”
