LABOUR is set for its worst performance since the 1930s in the upcoming General Election, with its own election team reportedly expecting its number of MPs to plummet to 140.
Jeremy Corbyn has repeatedly insisted he can defeat Theresa May’s Conservatives to win the vote on June 8.
But it seems his own party is not so sure, with quoting “two very good sources” in Labour’s election team as saying they expect a pummelling at the ballot box.
The party’s private data has reportedly led them to the conclusion they could be left with as few as 140 seats after the vote.
That would mean some 89 MPs would lose their seats, leaving the Tories with a potentially colossal majority in the Commons.
Labour has denied the existence of any such prediction.
But if true, the results would represent the party’s worst capitulation since the disastrous election of 1935, when it was left with just 154 seats.
The reports of Labour’s dire predictions for its own success come as it emerged that a core of die-hard Corbynites have allegedly already arranged his victory party.
The hard-left leader’s supporters have been sending out invitations to the bash in Downing Street’s nearest pub, according to .
Theresa May, too, warned a Corbyn victory was not off the cards, urging voters to turn out and not to get complacent.
Writing in the , she said: “Make no mistake, it could happen.
“The cold hard fact is that if I lose just six seats I will lose this election, and Jeremy Corbyn will be sitting down to negotiate with the presidents, prime ministers and chancellors of Europe.”
