He told campaigners in Peterborough that Mrs May planned to cap social care bills — the opposite of the Conservatives’ manifesto plans.

Mr Corbyn said: “What the Conservatives are doing is to put a £100,000 cap on social care which goes nowhere near meeting the needs of somebody with extreme conditions who can easily spend £50,000 a year.

“It’s completely unrealistic.”

The Tories are actually proposing a deal that would see people pay for their care in old age if they have more than £100,000 in assets.

Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell yesterday admitted claiming £200 a year in winter fuel allowance despite earning nearly £100,000.

He insisted it was fair that millionaires such as Sir Mick Jagger got the benefit.

The Tories aim to means test it, but Mr McDonnell said many may not claim the allowance if that system is brought in.
