Lad, 5, saves parents lives after they overdosed on heroin in front of him and his three month old sister

A FIVE-year-old boy saved the lives of his parents and baby sister after dashing to get help after his mum and dad overdosed on heroin.

The terrified youngster ran two blocks barefoot to his step-grandfather's home and told him that his parents had collapsed and died.

Investigators now say they boy is to thank for saving the lives of three in Middletown, Ohio.

The boy's step-grandfather Kenneth Currey said the boy was smart and had been taught what to do in an emergency.

"I'm very proud of the boy, very proud of him, but it's just, tragedy," Currey told WLWT.

He told how he called police who rushed to the child's home.

"When I walked up the steps and seen him laying in the bathroom floor and her in the hallway, I immediately called 911 because I knew what was up," said Currey.

While talking with dispatchers, Currey tried to calm the boy and his three-month-old baby sister, who was on the floor, crying in the car seat.

Officials said they found Lee Johnson and Chelsie Marshall lying unconscious on the floor.

Johnson was given the recovery drug Narcan and woke up shortly afterwards, police said.

He told police that he used heroin and was handcuffed and put in the back of a police cruiser.

Marshall was given several doses of Narcan, but did not wake up, officials said.

She was taken to a hospital, where she was revived.

Both children were taken to the Police Department where the boy was given a badge for being so brave.

Police Chief Rodney Muterspaw declared the boy a hero.

He also said when the parents were revived, they acted as if the whole situation was no big deal.

"Parents, wake up. People that are doing this, you're not just hurting you, you're hurting your families and your kids. I mean this could've turned out really bad for two children that don't deserve it," he said.

Marshall and Johnson face two charges of endangering children and one count of disorderly conduct with heroin.

"Hopefully they get a wake-up call. They need a wake-up call big time," said Currey.

Both are being held in the Middletown City Jail on £5,000 bonds.

Currey said the children are with other family members.
