ARE YOU REALLY ENJOYING THIS ELECTION, ED?

Former Labour leader Ed Miliband pictured looking incredibly glum on the campaign trail

Two years ago he was aiming to become the Prime Minister – but this time around getting re-elected to his Doncaster seat seems much less exciting

TWO YEARS ago Ed Miliband thought he was just days away from becoming Prime Minister at the 2015 election – but this time around he’s just a backbencher trying to get re-elected to a safe seat.

Consequently it’s not surprising that the former Labour leader doesn’t look altogether enthused about meeting people in his old colleague Ed Ball’s former constituency.

Defending a majority of almost 12,000, in a race where his party is expected to go down in a landslide, Mr Miliband hasn’t got much to play for.

That might be why he was pictured getting his fingers green as he helped out mowing a constituent’s lawn last week.

He tweeted: “Following instructions for grassroots strategy in Doncaster North.”

Mr Miliband was canvassing with Doncaster Council Labour councillors standing in the local elections.

He was mocked as a journalist pointed out that he’d saved a space for the legendary Ed Stone.

And the 47-year-old tweeted back: “Yep. There’s always some smart-arse that has to spoil it.”

This week he was filmed getting a touch of the “Diane Abbotts” as he stumbled over the bingo numbers as he called them out in his Doncaster North constituency.

He forgot the correct format, and began by calling out them out from the traditional list of names.

But the 47-year-old, who presided over Labour's loss to David Cameron’s Tories in 2015, then read out "Nineteen... sorry... one and nine, nineteen."

Pensioners in the room giggled and tutted at the slip-up, but moved swiftly on with the game.
