Tories to hit tech giants like Facebook and Google with new levy to clear porn, hate speech and filth from the internet
THE Tories will hit tech giants like Facebook and Google with a new tax to help clear filth from the net.
Theresa May has compared the firms to the gambling industry for the problems they cause and pledged to raise funds from an industry-wide levy to “support awareness and preventative activity.”
And she pledged to “put a responsibility on industry not to direct users – even unintentionally – to hate speech, pornography, or other sources of harm.”
The manifesto also vowed to “ensure content creators are appropriately rewarded for the content they make available online”.
