Mum is ‘threatened with JAIL over one-star TripAdvisor review for a restaurant and then got hit with legal warnings’
Eatery insists she fabricated three reviews and it will go to court
A MUM fears she will end up in jail for posting a one-star review of a restaurant on TripAdvisor.
Sarah Gardner received a legal letter after complaining of poor service and mediocre food at High Rocks in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
The part-time nurse was told she would be sued for defamation in the High Court.
Sarah said the letter, which came with a copy of an injunction labelled “Penal Notice” and warning her of the risk of jail for contempt, left her “a nervous wreck”.
But High Rocks insists she fabricated three reviews and it will go to court.

The restaurant has an average 4.5 rating from 130 reviews on the TripAdvisor site.
Sarah, 44, described her one-star review as “pretty innocuous”.
But it prompted the 11-page letter from solicitors Cohen Davis who warned her it was defamatory, unlawful and caused “financial harm worth tens of thousands of pounds”.
Sarah replied, saying the restaurant should simply have responded on the site and insisting: “I posted an honest review.”
But Cohen Davis claimed Sarah had not even been to the restaurant, adding: “Ms Gardner’s false reviews came about because she was banned from booking our clients’ establishment having been extremely rude and offensive to staff over the telephone.”
- OTHER customers have slammed High Rocks on TripAdvisor including James Batup, who also claims that he was threatened with legal action.
