According to the data, the US produced the most traffic to the site by more than double, followed by Britain, Canada, India and Japan - with Brits visiting almost twice as much as Canadians.

The most searched for term by porn-lovers was "lesbian", followed by "step mom" and "milf".

Americans, Canadians, Brits and Australians' favourite category was "lesbian", while Russia's was "a***, Italy's was "milf" and Romania's was "mature".

The stats also broke down men and women's different habits, with the largest proportion of female watchers coming from Jamaica.

Sharing the data on its site, a statement said: "2016 was a busy year for Pornhub users. Nearly 92 billion videos were watched over the course of 23 billion visits to the site by many millions of very horny visitors.

"That’s 64 million visitors per day, or 44,000 every minute.

"Collectively, that’s 4.6 billion hours of porn watching stuffed into just one year."

The site also revealed that new term Overwatch, in reference to the video game, had shot up its search terms.

Sex therapist Dr Laurie Betito told the site: "It appears that the trend is moving more toward fantasy than reality.

"‘Generic’ porn is being replaced with fantasy specific or scenario specific scenes.

"Is this as a result of boredom or curiosity?

"One thing is certain; the typical ‘in-out, in-out’ no longer satisfies the masses, who are clearly looking for something different."

The porn giant sparked a panic with its brilliant April Fool's Day prank, tricking visitors into thinking they had shared their viewing habits on Facebook.

It also raised eyebrows by adding a special logo to its site for Mother's Day, featuring a vase and flowers next to its usual masthead.
