A SPERM bank boss has been accused of secretly switching donors' semen with his OWN to father 60 kids without the mums knowing.

Jan Karbaat, who died aged 89 last month, is accused by 23 families of using his own sperm to father children at a fertility clinic in Rotterdam.

He reportedly admitted to fathering around 60 children through the Bijdorp Medical Centre before his death.

Karbaat is accused of falsifying the clinic's data, analyses and donor descriptions, which closed in 2009 amid reports of irregularities.

He is also accused of allowing couples more than the allocated six children per donor.

Bidjorp was one of the country's biggest sperm banks in the 80s and 90s and Karbaat described himself as a "pioneer in the field of fertilisation".

The families are now seeking a DNA test to see if Karbaat used his own sperm.

Tim Beuters, a lawyer acting for the families, said: "It's a fundamental right to know where one came from.

"It's a question of identity, it helps someone to form their personality."

One male client is said to physically resemble the doctor, while others have DNA irregularities based on the supposed sperm donors.

Lisette de Haan, the lawyer for Karbaat's family, said: "There is not the slightest evidence that Mr Karbaat was the donor."

She asked the court to preserve the doctor's request no DNA tests would be carried out after his death.

If the court decides to carry out as DNA test, Karbaat's body could be exhumed.

The court will return a decision on June 2.
