Her mood remained buoyant later while in conversation with the King of Bahrain.

She watched the Endurance event alongside the 67-year-old Gulf state ruler Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The Duke of York also shared in the high spirits with the pair at the event in Royal Windsor Park.

There’s little surprise she was in a good mood as the 91-year-old’s horse Barber’s Shop won a prize yesterday.

She wrapped up against the elements in a floral silk headscarf and an overcoat.

Her Majesty never misses the event held in her back garden.

It’s been staged every year since its inception in 1943.

Prince Philip also appeared to relish the proceedings.

The 95-year-old, who announced his intention to withdraw from public engagements last week, was seen riding across the grounds of Windsor castle in a carriage.

The Duke of Edinburgh gripped a whip in his right hand and the reins in his left hand as he took control of two horses.

On Wednesday he joined his wife at a naval college where he was described as a “very randy” young sailor.

His former Navy colleague Keith Evans, 97, made the remark as the Royal couple were given a tour of Pangbourne College in Berkshire
