Officers swarmed to Rossington Street, Hackney, just after 4pm, after terrified members of the public reported seeing a man with the blades.

Community safety group, Shomrim, contained the area after they said the man made a failed attempt to get into one shop before entering the other shouting: “Where is the boss, I will kill him.”

In a statement Shomrim said the man was told the owner was not there, before it is claimed he ran out towards two Jewish girls, aged eight and 14, and allegedly called out: “You Jews run away from here before I kill you.”
