A BUS driver dropped off schoolchildren at Greggs instead of classes – leaving them to walk a mile back.

The peckish pupils, aged between 11 and 15, asked for the lift to the bakers after arriving at Cynffig Comprehensive in Bridgend, Wales.

Hungry schoolkids were forced to walk a mile back to classes after being dropped off at Greggs

At least ten took the trip to the nearby shop in Pyle before trekking back to classes.

The driver has now been reprimanded by bus company Gwyn Jones and Son.

One parent said: “They ended up walking back to school.

“Children could have been run over or not gone back to school all day. Anything could have happened.”

The parent said pupils had taken the bus on the morning of April 26.

She said: “The school was notified by other children who saw the children go back on to the bus.

“The school was brilliant and acted on it straight away.”

She claimed it was “days” before Bridgend County Borough Council confirmed what had happened.

The driver remains with Gwyn Jones and Son which retains its school contract for the route.

A spokesman for Bridgend council said: “As soon as this matter was reported, the council carried out a full investigation and the bus company undertook swift action against the employee.

“We are satisfied that appropriate measures are in place to ensure this incident will not reoccur.”

A spokesperson for Gwyn Jones said: “The incident was reported to us and the company took appropriate action with the driver.”
