At least ten took the trip to the nearby shop in Pyle before trekking back to classes.

The driver has now been reprimanded by bus company Gwyn Jones and Son.

One parent said: "They ended up walking back to school.

"Children could have been run over or not gone back to school all day. Anything could have happened."

The parent said pupils had taken the bus on the morning of April 26.

She said: "The school was notified by other children who saw the children go back on to the bus.

"The school was brilliant and acted on it straight away."

She claimed it was "days" before Bridgend County Borough Council confirmed what had happened.

The driver remains with Gwyn Jones and Son which retains its school contract for the route.
