The mammals have been taught how to hold guns, defuse 'mines' and raise the country's flag as they prepare for Russia's Victory Day celebrations.

And they looked to be enjoying training as they saluted their trainer at Baikal Seal Aquarium, in the city of Irkutsk.

Their final performance will be seen on Tuesday as the country commemorate's the 72nd anniversary of the capitulation of Nazi Germany in 1945.

While the seals' trainer Maria Chernovopivskaya said:"Tito and Lilo – those are our two fighters - they're just like us, different, each one with their own nature.

"Tito is like a go-ahead fellow and Lilo, as a girl, is more shy."

Last week hundreds of military vehicles flooded the streets of Russia during rehearsals for Victory Day.

More than 70 planes and helicopters practised manoeuvres overhead with the world’s largest military transport helicopter Mi-26 escorted by a quartet of Mi-8 helicopters set to open the show.

On the ground, thousands of  troops put on well-practiced parade in a huge show of military might.
