France to ban super-skinny models in bid to end ‘glorification of anorexia’

Models will need a doctor’s certificate to prove they are healthy before being able to work

A LAW banning the use of super-skinny models will be introduced in France to help end the “glorification of anorexia”.

Models will now need a doctor’s certificate to prove they are healthy before being able to work.

The rules will also force magazines that airbrush photos to label them as “re-touched”.

Agencies using underweight models in adverts or on the catwalk face fines of up to £60,000.

There will also be a fresh crackdown on pro- anorexia websites.

It will be made illegal to “provoke a person to seek excessive weight loss by encouraging prolonged nutritional deprivation”.

Socialist MP Olivier Veran said: “It is intolerable to promote malnutrition or glorify anorexia and to exploit people endangering their health.”
