Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson given free run by Ukip in safe Uxbridge seat
The Tories have been in talks with Ukip on a series of electoral pacts
THE pact between anti-EU Tories and Ukip deepened today as it emerged the Brexit party would not field a candidate against Leave campaign champion Boris Johnson.
The chief-Brexiteer turned Foreign Secretary will be given a free run in his safe West London seat of Uxbridge.
In an appeal to Ukip voters last year Mr Johnson said: “There’s not very much between us.”
Ukip came third in the seat in 2015 with 6,345 votes compared to the Tories 22,511.
Last week The Sun revealed senior Tories were in talks over a series of electoral pacts across the country with Ukip.
Conservative MP Philip Hollobone became the first to break cover by declaring he was delighted Ukip had given him their backing in Kettering.
And there could be dozens more such pacts forged by polling day.
Labour’s General Election campaign coordinator Andrew Gwynne hit out last night: “You can’t put a cigarette paper between UKIP and the Tories now.”
