Veterans warning wannabe Labour MPs to stay away from their homes because of Jeremy Corbyn’s IRA sympathies

Copycat messages posted on signs and in windows have been popping up all over the country

FORCES veterans are warning wannabe Labour MPs to stay away from their homes because of Jeremy Corbyn’s IRA sympathies.

Copycat messages posted on signs and in windows have been popping up all over the country, in another setback for the struggling party.

They read: ‘Dear Labour canvassers, a proud forces veteran lives here. Your leader supports the IRA. Knock at your own risk!’.

Some MPs have posted snaps of the warnings on social media, including Conservative MP for Morley and Outwood Andrea Jenkyns - who ousted in 2015.

One Labour MP, who also come across the signs, said: “It’s very hard to persuade people we’re on the side of the forces once they’ve heard about Jeremy’s record. The problem is it’s all there in black and white.

“His stupid school boy positions of the past are killing us on the doorstep.”

The hard left Opposition Leader has regularly shared public stages with Sinn Fein politicians and IRA commanders such as Martin McGuinness.

When the Troubles were raging, Mr Corbyn also spoke at official republican commemorations to honour dead IRA terrorists.

He sparked outrage when he invited Sinn Fein boss Gerry Adams into the House of Commons in 1995 while the violence was still ongoing.

And as recently as late September 2015, after he has first been elected Labour leader, Mr Corbyn declared he still believed in a united Ireland.

Armed Forces Minister Mike Penning told The Sun: “It’s no surprise that Jeremy Corbyn’s nonsensical support for the IRA, opposition to Trident and desire to stop air strikes against ISIS terrorists make him toxic with the Forces community on the doorstep.

“Theresa May and the Conservatives are growing the defence budget to equip us in a dangerous world, while Corbyn and McDonnell want to take the axe to our military.”
