Brazilian footballer who had girlfriend murdered and fed to his pet ROTTWEILERS sent back to prison
Sick Bruno Fernandes de Souza had been let out of jail in February on a legal technicality
THE footballer who ordered the savage murder of his ex-girlfriend has been sent back to jail after his release earlier this year was overturned.
Brazilian pro Bruno Fernandes was let out of jail in February on a legal technicality after arranging the murder of Eliza Samudio to avoid paying child support.
In a surprise decision, judges in Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court voted by three to one today to reverse the decision in February this year to release the athlete on a technicality.
The controversial ruling gave Fernandes the right to await the decision on his appeals outside prison.
Just minutes after hearing the news, Sonia Moura, mother of Eliza, the woman brutally killed, spoke to the SunOnline to reveal her relief at hearing the decision.
She was instrumental in putting Fernandes back behind bars following her appeal against his release.
Sonia, who has custody of Eliza’s seven-year-old son, Bruninho, who was fathered by Fernandes said: “I am just so relieved to hear that he is going back in.
“I am relieved for my grandson to see that justice is being done, even though it is going at it in a long and tortuous route. I have been fighting so hard since the day Bruno was released to get this injustice overturned.
“My lawyer called me about five minutes before it was announced on the news. I was expecting her call and when she said ‘I’ve got news for you’, I said if it’s bad I don’t want to hear it right now.
“She said no it’s good news, the Supreme Court has authorised his return back to prison,” revealed the 51-year-old sales woman.
According to reports, during deliberations, the judges analysed Sonia’s appeal on the grounds that the goalkeeper’s freedom put ‘her and her grandson’s physical integrity at risk.”
At the time of Fernandes release Sonia revealed she had faced death threats in 2014.
She said: “I’m afraid he (Fernandes) will get his henchmen to come looking for us.
“But not to talk to me about how Bruninho is doing, but to finish off what he started.
“I don’t believe he has changed, it’s just a cover. He is a cold and sneaky person. He does not deserve to be free.
“If he gets a chance to kill us I believe he will. I have had to change our routine to protect my grandson and myself.
“I have told Bruninho not to go near the gate of our house and not to leave school with anyone other than me or my husband.”
Speaking to the SunOnline Sonia said: “As soon as I heard the news, I felt a weight drop off my shoulders but I had to keep calm as Bruninho was near me. So when I was off the phone I went into my room shut the door and cried quietly.
“All the time Bruno was free, I felt revulsion, indignation and a profound sadness that he should have been given the right to walk out of jail and then get a contract to play football.
“He is cold, cynical and calculating. He has no conscience. I don’t know how he can sleep at night knowing all the barbaric things he got his henchmen to do to my daughter.
“It was gut-wrenching to watch how he sauntered out of prison. He came out smiling and really happy as if he had done nothing wrong and as if he’d finished his sentence and he could just pick up the strings of his life again.
“But life for me and my grandson can never be the same. I still do not know where the body of my daughter is.
“It appears that Bruno’s only regret is that he was caught.”
According to Maria Lucia Borges, Sonia’s lawyer, Fernandes is reported to be extremely upset at hearing he was being sent back to prison.
Sonia said: “My lawyer said that Bruno was very unhappy and sad because he had been trying to work very hard to earn money to pay the child support for his three children.”
Two of his children are with his first wife.
However, Sonia revealed she has not received ‘one penny’ from the professional athlete.
“He is meant to pay his son around £10,500 a month in child support, but we have never received anything,” she said.
“Even though I personally don’t want any of his money but my lawyer has advised me that it is my grandson’s right to have the financial support.
“Especially to help his education and to help him in the early years of his life. Bruninho is already at a disadvantage and psychologically he will suffer. It will be even worse when people know who he is, as he will be forever tainted by his father’s actions.”
Fernandes had served six years and seven months when he was released - less than a third of his original sentence of 22 years and three months.
The 32-year-old soccer player was convicted in 2013 for paying his friends to kidnap Eliza, torture, murder her and feed her dismembered body to Rottweilers, and for plotting the murder of son Bruninho.
The former star goalie wanted to avoid paying child support for Bruninho – who was only four-months-old at the time.
Eliza disappeared in 2010 and her body has never been found.
She was 25 years old and was the mother of Fernandes newborn son. But he refused to recognise his paternity.
The pair allegedly met at an orgy and started dating while Fernandes was married.
At the time, the player was signed to Flamengo one of Brazil’s premiere league clubs. He had a promising career and was even considering a move to Europe and had been tipped to play for the national side.
