WOOLWORTHS could be making a comeback to the UK after closing its doors almost a decade ago.
The retailer's former managing director Tony Page has admitted to making a plea to buy back the brand name, saying he believes it still has a future.
Speaking to the , Mr Page said that he had approached Shop Direct to buy the name back, saying: "I am still emotionally attached to it.
"I still think it has got a role in the future."
He said that while he envisioned that it would still be a physical shop, Woolworths - nicknamed Woolies - could be better as being part of the community, rather than in shopping centres.

Mr Page had reportedly tried to buy the brand back after its collapse but was beaten by Shop Direct.
The company ran the retail site but closed it six years later and merged it into its Very brand.
Woolworths, known for its Pick n Mix range, entered administration in 2008, having amassed debts of about £400m.
The 800 stores across the UK were closed, with about 27,000 employees made redundant.
After Tony Page moved on from his position as commercial and marketing director with Woolworths, he went on to become the interim executive commercial director for Lenta.
He also worked as the Chairman for Paldone and Kids First Trust.
He has also previously worked as CEO for tofs, the original factory shop.
