Stop Jeremy Corbyn and ‘coalition of chaos’ from entering No10 ahead of next month’s General Election

Patrick McLoughlin says that Jeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister would put our growing economy at risk

Jeremy Corbyn

Imagine waking up on June 9 to find Jeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister? It could easily happen thanks to deals made in desperation with Nicola Sturgeon’s Scottish Nationalists and Tim Farron’s EU-loving Liberal Democrats.

Clearly our growing economy would immediately be put at risk.

Clearly this would usher in a new era of higher taxes to fund Labour’s wasteful spending.

More debt would be piled up, storing up problems for our children and grandchildren.

Jobs would disappear as Jeremy Corbyn pursues the socialist utopia he has dreamed about for years.

And to achieve it, he would be held to ransom by his two accidental partners – agreeing to another Scottish referendum to get the support of the SNP, and plunging last year’s decisive vote to leave the European Union into doubt to appease the Liberal Democrats who want to reverse Brexit.

Make no mistake: this coalition of chaos would be a disaster for the United Kingdom.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Because in the General Election on June 8 the British people have a clear choice, between strong and stable leadership under Theresa May and the Conservatives, or a coalition of chaos propping up Jeremy Corbyn.

This choice is a vital one for the future of the United Kingdom.

Last June the British people voted decisively to leave the European Union – to take back control of our borders, of our laws, and of our money. That referendum result was also an instruction to change the way the country works, and who it works for.

Only the Conservatives have a plan for a stronger Britain outside the EU.

Theresa May will negotiate a special partnership with the European Union and a United Kingdom that is free to chart its own way in the world. These negotiations rely on strong and stable leadership that no other party is able to provide.

In contrast, Labour and their partners have not ruled out another EU referendum – let alone set out their plan for Brexit.

All of the other parties believe in uncontrolled borders and freedom of movement, and none of them have guaranteed that they would respect the choice of the British people to continue with Brexit.

The Conservatives will also stick to our plan to build a country that works for everyone, not just the privileged few.

We will continue to build a strong economy that rewards Sun on Sunday readers – people who work hard and want jobs and opportunities spread throughout the country.

We will give everyone the chance to get on in life, providing real opportunity for all by building more affordable homes and giving every child a good school place.

We will continue to provide strong and accountable leadership and build a secure and united nation at home. Jeremy Corbyn has already said that he would support a second Scottish independence referendum in return for SNP support in Government, leading to division across the country like we have seen in Westminster and within the Labour Party.

The choice this country made last June to leave the European Union and the one that they will make in under six weeks’ time are about the opportunities for Britain. They’re about ensuring that future generations grow up in a country where success is defined by work and talent and where everybody has the same chance to achieve. They’re about governing in the interests of everyone and ensuring that everybody has the chance to make the most of their lives.

The country is uniting around this vision, but Westminster is not. We have already seen that the current division in Westminster, caused by Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the SNP risks weakening your Government’s hand in negotiating a strong deal with the European Union and would deliver a weak government for the UK.

That is why Theresa May has called this General Election. It is the only way to ensure we have strong leadership, certainty and stability.

Whilst serving in Theresa May’s cabinet I have seen first-hand what a strong and impressive leader she is.

I have seen how she is someone who always puts the national interest first and gets things done.

When she took over as Prime Minister Britain faced a great deal of uncertainty - her ambition was to provide economic stability, a clear vision and strong leadership - that is what she has done. She committed to delivering Brexit and she is doing just that.

The contrast with Jeremy Corbyn – who many of his own Labour MPs don’t even support – could not be clearer.

But the threat of him getting into Downing Street, propped up by the SNP and the Liberal Democrats is very real. He has already said he would do a deal with other parties to get into government.

So it is vital that Theresa May gets your support on June 8. At this election every vote counts and the choice is clear for all to see.

By backing the strong and stable leadership provided by Theresa May and the Conservative Party, Sun on Sunday readers – and the people of this country – will be ensuring that she can get on with the job of making Britain an even better place to live and work through Brexit and beyond.
