Traffic warden slaps ticket on NHS blood van while nurses collect supplies from donors
They left the van on a single yellow line on a back road on Bank Holiday Monday for the session at a nearby school
A TRAFFIC warden slapped a £70 parking ticket on an NHS blood minibus for nurses attending a donor session.
They left the van on a single yellow line on a back road on Bank Holiday Monday for the session at a nearby school.
One returned to find the ticket and told donor Andrew Suggitt, 33, who took photos in York.
Biologist Andrew said: “I was disgusted when I heard one of the ladies mention it as we sat having a cup of tea afterwards.
"Would you put a ticket on an ambulance? If the answer is no then blood service vehicles shouldn't be ticketed.
"It's a failure of common sense. I don't want to live in a world where we put parking tickets on essential vehicles which are so important for our health and welfare.
"The staff do an amazing job and were giving up their bank holiday, it's pretty unbelievable this happened. It is so disappointing.

"The only people accessing that road, because it's a sort of dead-end, would be coming to that session."
York Council cancelled the ticket. A spokesman said: “Clearly this was the wrong judgment call.
“Blood donor vehicles normally apply for permits in advance. They didn’t seem to this time.”
