TAKES THE BISCUIT

Dog owners claim to ‘find METAL WIRES buried in Morrisons Gravy Bones pet biscuits’ – but supermarket claims it’s animal hair

Dog-lovers complained the suspicious-looking "wire" could seriously injure or even kill their pets

MORRISONS have been forced to investigate claims by dog owners that their own-brand treat biscuits contain "metal wire".

Customers claimed to have spotted thin wire fragments sticking out of Gravy Bones biscuits, with fears it could leave dogs seriously injured or even dead.

Dog owner Amy Taylor shared images on social media of "wires" poking out of the dog treats she bought from a store in Solihull, West Midlands.

Horrified by the discovery, she wrote: "Huge warning to my friends on Facebook. The Gravy Bones from Morrisons have wire going straight through them.

"Very sharp, some are really long. Luckily my mum noticed although the dog has already had a few. It's on almost every single gravy bone. Pretty scary."

She said that she had immediately reported it to the store, and planned on taking the treats back as soon as possible.

Her warning has since seen an influx of concerns about the biscuits, with other dog lovers saying they had found the "wires" in other 400g boxes of Gravy Bones biscuits, priced at £1.

Krissie Bennett wrote: "Scary. Should be an EPW - Emergency Product Withdrawal. Could kill someone’s pet."

Deb Povey, from Blyth, Northumberland, also shared a photo of a bone with "wire" poking out, saying she returned the treats to her local store.

She said: "I rang your complaints department and they told me to take them down to my store and to get the staff to take the others off the shelves which I did, your staff were very helpful and apologetic and took the other boxes off the shelves but I'm very concerned that they should be all taken off shelves throughout the UK as it's clear that there is a quality control issue here.

"Just because it's a animal food doesn't mean they should have a lesser quality control as human food."

Morrisons launched an investigation into the reports and found the 'wire' was actually animal hair

Morrisons initially said it had launched an investigation and raised the issue with its supplier.

A spokesman said: "We're aware that a customer has found a foreign object in one of our dog biscuits.

"We take the safety of all of our products really seriously and are talking to our supplier and the affected customer."

The supermarket later confirmed that, following a probe, the "wire" had been deemed a piece of animal hair that forms part of the product.

A spokesman told The Sun: "We've examined the sample and determined that the objects are not metal.  They are animal hairs that are sometimes found in the ingredients of the gravy bones."
