Labour rift grows as Starmer’s ‘woke’ Attorney General dubbed an ‘arrogant, progressive fool’ faces calls to resign

Labour veteran Lord Maurice Glasman insisted the Attorney General 'has to go'

A LABOUR row deepened today as Britain's Attorney General was blasted an "arrogant, progressive fool".

Lord Richard Hermer faces growing calls to resign over his support for Shamima Begum, slavery reparations and surrendering the Chagos Islands.

Labour veteran Lord Maurice Glasman insisted the Attorney General "has to go" because his views don't align with the majority of Brits.

The founder of the traditionalist Blue Labour group told the New Statesman: "He is the absolute archetype of an arrogant, progressive fool who thinks that law is a replacement for politics.

"They talk about the rule of law but what they want is a rule of lawyers.”

Tory Shadow Attorney General Lord David Wolfson endorsed the comments, adding: "Law isn’t a replacement for politics - both generally, and also within the Labour Party."

Lord Hermer is spearheading Sir Keir Starmer's drive to surrender the Chagos Islands to Chinese ally Mauritius - and pay £9bn in the process.

As a human rights lawyer before being asked by the PM to join the government, Lord Hermer represented a string of controversial clients, including IRA Leader Gerry Adams.

Lord Hermer also represented alleged al-Qaeda terrorist Abu Zubaydah and claimed it was “draconian” to strip jihadi bride Begum of her UK citizenship.

His other clients include a group of Nepalese and Bangladeshi migrants bringing a claim against British firm Dyson.

Lord Glasman also slammed Chancellor Rachel Reeves as a "drone for the Treasury".

He said: "There’s no vision of economic renewal and no idea about how to renew the faraway towns."
