Four people injured after ‘serious incident’ in Stoneybatter, Dublin, as gardai arrest man & locals in ‘state of shock’

A MAN has been arrested after a "serious incident" in Dublin this afternoon.
It is understood up to four people have been stabbed in the Stoneybatter area of Dublin 7.
Two men are being treated in hospital for serious but non life-threating injuries, while a third man is being treated for less severe inquires.
In a statement this evening Gardai have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
They said: "Gardai continue to investigate all the circumstances of a serious incident which occurred in the Stoneybatter area, Dublin 7 this afternoon, Sunday 9th February 2025.
"A man has been arrested and is currently detained at a Garda station in the North City under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
"Three males assaulted in the course of the incident have been taken to hospital for treatment, two males for serious but not life-threatening injuries, one male with less serious injuries."
"A number of scenes are currently being preserved for technical examination in the Stoneybatter area. All traffic restrictions have been lifted."
"Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
"Anyone who was in the Stoneybatter area between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, who may have any video footage linked to this incident, is asked to make this footage available to Gardai.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bridewell Garda Station on (01) 6668200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
According to , the attacks are believed to have occurred at three different locations in the Stoneybatter area.
One person is believed to have been stabbed in the doorway of their house when returning home.
The suspect is believed to have used regular household implements in the attack.
According to reports some victims had their faces slashed.
And sources have confirmed Gardai do not believe the incident is related to terrorism and the attacks appear to be random.
Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan has described the incident as an "awful random attack".
Posting on social media he said: "I am receiving updates from an Garda Siochana about the situation in Stoneybatter.
"The suspect is now in custody and the victims of this awful random attack are receiving medical attention."
Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald has said locals are in a "state of shock".
Posting on social media she said: "Terrible news from Stoneybatter this afternoon.
"My thoughts are with those injured and their families. The community is in a state of shock.
"The Gardai and emergency services are to be commended for their response."
The Social Democrats Spokesperson for Justice, Home Affairs & Migration has also thanked the emergency services for their quick response.
Posting on X, formerly Twitter, Gary Gannon said: "Heartbreaking news from Stoneybatter in the last few hours.
"My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the entire community affected by this.
"A sincere thank you to our emergency services and the Gardaí for such a quick response this afternoon."
