Man and woman, in their 90s, die in early-morning house fire as devastating inferno rips through home

A MAN and woman, both in their 90s, have died in an early-morning house fire - after the devastating inferno ripped through their home.

Flames engulfed the property in Abertillery, Wales just before 8am on Sunday February 9.

Emergency services were called there shortly after - but the elderly couple both tragically died at the scene.

Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "We were called to a report of a house fire in Adam Street, Abertillery, at around 7.55am on Sunday (February 9).

"Officers attended along with teams from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Wales Air Ambulance and Welsh Ambulance Service.

"Two people, a man and a woman and both in their nineties, are confirmed to have died at the scene by a doctor.

"Their next of kin are aware and are receiving support from specialist officers."
