Child, 4, fighting for life after being struck by car as cops launch urgent probe

No arrests have been made

A CHILD is fighting for their life after being struck by a car at a junction this morning.

Cops raced to Ilford in east London shortly after 8.50am today following the horror smash.

London Ambulance Service and police crews found the injured four-year-old child when they arrived at the scene.

They were then taken to hospital where their condition was assessed as critical.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told The Sun that the driver stopped at the scene and that the child remains in a critical condition in hospital.

An earlier statement from the force said: “Police were called at 8.56am on Friday, 7 February to Cranbrook Road, Ilford following a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

“The pedestrian, a 4-year-old child was taken to hospital where they remain in a critical condition. 

“Enquiries remain ongoing and no arrests have been made."

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 8.51am today (7 February) to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Cranbrook Road and Gantshill Crescent, Ilford.

“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer.

"We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated a child at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
