Waterloo fire: Blaze breaks out in tunnel near Tube station as line closed and firefighters race to the scene
A FIRE has broken out in a tunnel on part of the London Underground.
The blaze erupted in the northbound tunnel of the Northern line near Waterloo Station, close to the heart of the city.
London Fire Brigade and other emergency crews rushed to the scene after reports of a fire in the Kennington Tunnels on York Road, south east London this morning.
Sections of the Tube tunnel were closed as a precaution and people were evacuated from the station.
The Northern line is currently suspended between Charing Cross and Battersea Power Station as a result.
While the fire has since been contained by emergency crews, its cause is not yet known.
