Watch the unbelievable footage of the chase in the video
THIS is the bizarre moment a digger drive with devil horns tattooed on his forehead leads 15 cop cars on a chase before being shot.
Joseph Shelby Jones, 35, also rammed a patrol car with the stolen track loader after trying to run someone over near an intersection in Mobile, Alabama.
Jones was the man driving the stolen digger, according to numerous law enforcement sources that spoke to
Unbelievable footage shows the small red digger on a completely clear interstate, barely keeping within the lines of the middle lane.
Jones is captured swerving it dramatically to the right before going off-road into the grass and trees.
The blue and red flashing of cop cars then becomes visible as Jones does a complete U-turn and tries to flee the same way he came.
But as the camera zooms out, it shows the digger completely swarmed each side of the interstate with cop cars.
Jones picks up speed as he appears to try to smash into a police car, which swerves to narrowly avoid it – but another vehicle wasn’t as lucky as other footage shows Jones ramming into its side.
Cops said the hit resulted in significant damage to the car, adding that Jones also tried to ram police officers too.
The digger thief tries again to flee the way he came before turning around where he is met with an officer holding up a gun.
A whopping 15 cop cars are captured trying to avoid the digger’s path – including on the opposite interstate.
Another office jumps out of his car before appearing to fire a shot at the digger – and Jones.
Cops said the bizarre incident began when officers were dispatched after someone reported a theft.
Authorities then discovered the track loader that had been reported stolen was used to try and run someone over.
When police initially attempted to bring the digger to a stop, the driver desperately fled the scene.
At one point he was travelling the opposite direction of I-10 before turning back west and and getting off at an interstation.
Jones was shot by Mobile Police during the dramatic chase and is said to be on a ventilator in hospital, sources told
Footage showed one officer apparently firing at the 35-year-old but it’s unknown if that was a non-lethal round.
The chase came to an end when multiple officers began to open fire but it’s unclear if Jones was armed.
According to jail records, the digger driver was released from Metro a mere three days before the chase occurred.
He also reportedly served 11 months in Metro a few years ago on multiple convictions, according to the records.
