POLICE have ruled out investigating whether the PM’s voice coach broke Covid rules — because it is too late to prosecute anyone.

As No10 came out swinging after days of stonewalling about why Sir Keir Starmer met Leonie Mellinger in person during 2020’s tier 4 lockdown, the Met confirmed it had received a complaint.

But it said: “The legislation has a three-year deadline for initiating proceedings. As this alleged incident falls outside of this, no action will be taken.”

The all-clear came as No10 insisted the actress and speech coach was a paid member of a small core team vital to preparing the Labour leader for a virtual briefing.

Ms Mellinger, once wed to actor Robin Askwith, from the bawdy 1970s Confessions films, was asked to help the then-Opposition leader sound more natural.

She later became a friend of the Starmers but Downing Street insisted she was a member of staff.

No10 also admitted now-Chancellor Rachel Reeves was at the working gathering at Labour HQ despite London being under “stay at home” orders. No10 insisted it was all within the rules.

Previous sessions with Ms Mellinger, 65, were online.

Defiant Sir Keir told PMQs: “I was in my office working on the expected Brexit deal, while Tories were partying.”

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch’s spokesman said she believed police should investigate.
